I promised Cricket I would put up photos of the lunch boxes I made for all the male persons for christmas. I made myself one, too a few months ago. I know its crazy to make a lunch box, because there are about a million of them to buy. But. A. The Land's End ones I got for the Things to last at least two years had serious and consistent zipper issues, rendering them useless. B. The insulated vinyl-ey one I got for Sysguy a couple of years ago was cracking for no apparent reason. C. I wanted something I can throw into the laundry, the wiping out of the gak was just not good enough sometimes. D. The cool metal ones they had started to rust unappealingly. E. I hate the plastic ones. Hmm...I might just be a bit picky.
Et Voila:
Mine is the one with flowers, clearly. Its canvas I got for I don't know what reason, and just a plain bag I modeled after a starbucks bag I had been using till it fell apart. The other one is the example of three I made for the guys. Its leftover material from some shirts I made for Sysguy before Thing 1 arrived(!). I made a pattern of a paper sack, reinforced the sides and bottom with thick pellon (and added a rectangle of plastic cutting board in the bottoms), added some quilt batting I had laying around for a bit of insulation. The handle cord pulls the thing shut, with velcro to secure it, and there is a little loop on top to hang it up. I had to hand baste the twill tape on the edges, because I can't sew well enough to make that thick of something stay under the machine. Initials were mandatory, or there would be fighting.
The boys got a patch with their favorite "Fruits Basket" anime character inside theirs, and Sysguy got a saucy little manga cutie inside his. He says its less embarrassing than the topless manga cutie sticker I put inside his other lunch box. Dang.
I could begin a discourse here on the horror of school lunches these days, but I won't. They're lame and unhealthy. Nuff' said.
